The rescue happened on Friday, March 15 after a hiker fell in the Torne Valley area in Harriman State Park at around 6 p.m., according to the Spring Hill Community Ambulance Corps.
Spring Hill’s Special Operations Unit responded with its rescue Gator and a paramedic to navigate the rugged terrain and reach the injured hiker, who was deep within the trail and had suffered a compound fracture and was in severe pain.
Upon arrival, the paramedic initiated an IV line and administered fentanyl to help manage the woman's pain before the rescue process began.
Rescue crews carefully secured the hiker onto the Gator and transported her out of the wooded area before she was taken to Hackensack Hospital in stable condition for further treatment.
The operation lasted approximately three hours, Ambulance Corps members said.
